Community Guidelines
Last updated: September 26, 2026
The short version
Ask hard questions without making another person unsafe. Be honest. Be respectful. Do not identify, exploit, threaten, humiliate, or target people. Anonymous does not mean consequence-free.
These Guidelines are part of the YEA/NAY Terms of Use. They apply to questions, reports, support requests, result cards, and every other use of the Service.
1. What belongs here
YEA/NAY is designed for sincere yes-or-no questions that people may feel awkward, uncertain, or afraid to ask elsewhere. Examples may involve relationships, dating, friendship, work, money, personal choices, or everyday life.
A sensitive topic is not automatically prohibited. The way it is asked matters. Keep questions non-explicit, non-identifying, and focused on your own decision or experience rather than humiliating or exposing another person.
2. Protect personal information
Do not post information that identifies or could reasonably identify another person, including:
- full or partial names combined with contextual details;
- phone numbers, email addresses, home or work addresses;
- usernames, social handles, profile links, account numbers, or license plates;
- employer, school, neighborhood, schedule, or precise location;
- private messages, medical information, financial information, or secrets; or
- clues that make an otherwise anonymous person identifiable to a local community.
Do not ask users to identify, locate, contact, investigate, or expose someone. We may remove identifying information even when it is publicly available elsewhere.
3. No harassment, bullying, or targeted humiliation
Do not use YEA/NAY to insult, shame, degrade, intimidate, stalk, dogpile, or repeatedly target a person or group. Do not frame a real person as a public yes-or-no judgment, including questions designed to rate attractiveness, worth, sexual availability, guilt, or social acceptability.
Disagreement and uncomfortable personal questions are allowed when they do not become targeted abuse.
4. No hate or discrimination
Do not attack, dehumanize, exclude, or promote hatred against people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, immigration status, or another protected characteristic.
Questions about your own identity or experiences may be allowed. Content that treats a protected group as inferior, dangerous, or undeserving of rights is not.
5. No threats, violence, or dangerous conduct
Do not threaten, praise, encourage, coordinate, or instruct violence or physical harm. Do not ask the community to approve hurting someone. Do not provide instructions for weapons, dangerous acts, or evading authorities when doing so could facilitate harm.
Credible threats or indications of imminent serious harm may be escalated to appropriate emergency services or authorities as permitted or required by law.
6. Self-harm and crisis content
You may ask non-graphic questions about seeking help, supporting someone, or deciding whether to contact a professional. You may not encourage, romanticize, rank, or provide instructions for suicide, self-injury, eating-disorder behavior, or other serious self-harm.
YEA/NAY is not a crisis or emergency service. If someone may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or a qualified crisis resource rather than waiting for votes.
7. Sexual content and exploitation
YEA/NAY is for adults, but it is not a pornography, hookup, or sexual-exploitation service.
Do not post:
- graphic sexual descriptions intended primarily for arousal;
- sexual services, solicitation, trafficking, or coercion;
- non-consensual sexual content or intimate information;
- content sexualizing, grooming, exploiting, or endangering a person under 18;
- requests to judge the sexual desirability or behavior of an identifiable person; or
- content that facilitates sexual abuse or exploitation.
Non-graphic adult questions about dating, consent, boundaries, orientation, or sexual health may be allowed when they are respectful, non-identifying, and otherwise comply with these Guidelines.
Child sexual-abuse material and credible child-exploitation information will be removed and may be reported to the appropriate authorities and legally designated organizations.
8. No illegal activity, fraud, or exploitation
Do not use YEA/NAY to facilitate illegal activity, scams, fraud, trafficking, extortion, blackmail, stolen goods, unauthorized access, malicious software, or evasion of law enforcement. Discussions about personal experiences may be allowed when they do not instruct, coordinate, or promote wrongdoing.
9. Authentic participation
Do not:
- use bots, scripts, farms, purchased engagement, or multiple accounts to manipulate votes;
- spam repeated or substantially identical questions;
- impersonate another person or falsely claim official authority;
- coordinate mass reporting or voting campaigns;
- exploit bugs, reverse engineer safety controls, or bypass rate limits; or
- evade a warning, block, suspension, or ban through reinstalling, resetting, or changing devices or accounts.
10. No professional or emergency substitution
Do not present a YEA/NAY result as a diagnosis, professional opinion, binding decision, proof of wrongdoing, or substitute for medical, legal, financial, mental-health, or emergency help.
Questions that could foreseeably cause serious harm if answered by a simple vote may be restricted or removed.
11. Reporting and blocking
Use the flag control to report a question and select the closest reason. Reporting removes that question from your feed while it is reviewed. You may separately choose Also block this user. Blocking hides available and future questions from that anonymous author for your account.
Do not file knowingly false reports or use reporting to silence lawful viewpoints you merely dislike.
12. How enforcement works
Depending on context, severity, history, and risk, we may:
1. prevent a question from being posted;
2. reduce distribution or remove a question;
3. add a safety notice or resource;
4. disregard manipulated votes;
5. warn or temporarily restrict an account;
6. suspend or permanently ban an account or associated devices;
7. preserve evidence needed for safety, appeals, legal compliance, or ban enforcement; or
8. notify appropriate authorities where permitted or required by law.
Severe violations may result in immediate permanent action without a prior warning. Repeated lower-severity violations may escalate.
13. Moderation decisions and appeals
Automated systems may assist with detection and prioritization, but automation can make mistakes. Where appropriate, you may appeal an account-level action through support@yeanay.io. Include the anonymous account reference shown in Settings and enough information to identify the decision. Do not include unnecessary personal information.
We may not disclose internal detection methods, reporter identities, confidential information, or details that would undermine safety systems.
14. Updates
We may update these Guidelines as risks, laws, and the Service change. Material changes will be communicated in the app and may require renewed acceptance. The current version and effective date appear at the top.
